Felted Knit Purse

Have fun....
Your imagination is the limit!

Purses:

Two different color 100% WOOL skeins and one skein of matching fun fur.
(approx. 100yds for the small purse, a little more for the large...use a chunky weight)

Size 13/16" circular needles

Large Purse: Cast on 60 stitches using two strands of worsted weight or 1 strand of the bulky weight yarn.

Knit 13 rows with first color. Change to second color with matching fun fur and knit 16 rows. Change back to first color and do the following pattern:

Rows 1-3: Knit
Row 4,6 and 8: Purl
Row 5: knit 2 sts. tog., knit the next 10 stitches and....continue to end of the row
Row 7: knit 2 sts. tog., knit the next 10 stitches and continue to end of the row
Row 9: knit across, then cast off

Small Purse: Cast of 45 stitches
Knit 9 rows with first color, change to second color with matching fun fur and knit 11 rows. Change back to first color and do the following pattern:

Row 1: knit
Row 2, 4 and 6: purl
Row 3: knit
Row 5 and 7: knit 2 sts. tog., knit the next 8 stitches and....continue in this pattern until the end of the row
Row 8: knit across, then cast off

Bottom of both purses:
Turn purse inside out and whip stitch the bottom together with yarn using a yarn needle. Fold corners in 1" so that a triangle is formed. Stitch across the triangle.

Weave all loose yarn tails into the inside of the purse with a yarn needle.

I-Cord Handle:
Use second color wool and fun fur t match the middle of the bag. (or not ) Use the same needles as for the purse, cast on 4 stitches for small purse or 5 stitches for the large purse and knit the first row. DO NOT turn your needle. Slide stitches to other end of needle (yarn will now come from behind the needle and cross over the stitches alread done) and knit the next row, continue until the cord is 24" long for large bag and 20" for the small or adjust to desired length.

Insert the handle through the top side of purse, one inch down. Form a knot on the ends and stitch the know together with yarn using a yarn needle.

Now...you have to felt the purse!

Felt the purses in a mesh bag or pillow case in a washing machine using hot water and a little soap. Check often and remove when it appears felted...your stitches will not be real noticeable, if you do this too long it will become hairy! Do very little spinning, rinse in cold water, dry flat on a towl rack.

It works best to add some shoes to beat it up a bit!
